Keiichi Maebara, having moved from the city to the provincial village of Hinamizawa due to school problems, happily spends his days with his school friends, where he is the only boy. However, his carefree life does not last forever: one fateful day, Keiichi learns of a brutal murder that has occurred in the village. From that moment on, he becomes a witness, and sometimes a participant, to endless horrifying events. He will have to discover that his school friends are not at all the people they seem to be at first glance, and that the village of Hinamizawa is not the quiet and cozy place it appears to be for newcomers.
