Traumatized by the death of his parents, who were killed in front of him by a member of the Tōshū clan, the young Tetsunosuke Ichimura yearns for revenge against the villains. This desire leads him to strive to become stronger. At the age of fifteen, Tetsu, along with his older brother Tatsunosuke, goes to the Shinsengumi barracks to become a recruit. The boy is accepted into the squad, but due to his lack of skill, excessive hothead, and young age, he is only assigned the position of a servant. Tetsu's presence in the ranks of the Shinsengumi, side by side with the Shinsen warriors, makes him question whether revenge is worth turning into a merciless killer.
