Taiti Hyragi, son of a Japanese zoologist Taihei Hyragi and an English noblewoman Patricia Keaton, was born on October 20, 1955 in Japan and grew up in England. His parents divorced when he was five, and the young Taiti returned to England with his mother. As an adult, he studied archaeology at the University of Oxford, partially under the guidance of Professor Yuri Scott. At Oxford, he met and then married his wife, who was a mathematics student at Somerville. The couple later divorced, and Taiti's five-year-old daughter Yuriko remained under the care of her mother. Taiti is a veteran of the SAS special forces from the Falklands War, and his acquired skills help him in his work as an insurance investigator for the London insurance company Lloyd's. Keaton is known for his unorthodox investigative methods. In addition, he and his friend Daniel O'Connell own their own detective agency in London. Despite his success as an insurance investigator, Keaton dreams of continuing his archaeological research on the possible origins of an ancient European civilization in the Danube basin.
