Seko Takano, the carefree daughter of a geisha and an opposition activist, is left alone after the tragic death of her mother during an air raid during World War II. Left to her own devices, she scavenges for food along with other war orphans through theft. Seko does everything in her power to survive in the hungry post-war Japan and eventually seek retribution against those who caused harm to her and the people who took her in and helped her. The manga is considered unfinished, with an open ending.
